Forging a bond with US Sailing, Rolex aids this illustrious body in creating sailing events all across America. The New York Yacht Club has enjoyed the unwavering support of Rolex for a long time now. During this period the New York Yacht Club in association with Rolex has held a number of regatta challenges that illustrate the heritage and the glory of this historical association.

The most eminent and celebrated challenge of the New York Yacht Club is the Invitational Cup that is slated to begin on 15th of September this year. A total of nineteen teams representing fourteen different nations will be competing at the revered Invitational Cup. Amidst the illustrious teams that will be competing at this years event are two teams that will be representing the New York Yacht Club and the St. Francis Yacht Club of California. Regarded as an institution, the New York Yacht Club is probably the oldest yacht club in the United States. With such a tremendous history to its name representing this eminent club at the Invitational Cup is a great honor for sailors.

Held over a period of four days, the New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup has teams competing on the NYYC Swan 42s. Onboard the vessels the maximum crew that is allowed is 11 people who have to be a citizen of that particular country. The New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup is proud tradition in the sport of regatta and has been recognized as the proving ground for sailors everywhere. The rich heritage of this cup is one of the alluring aspects of this challenge. To compete in such a prestigious challenge is not only a great opportunity for sailors but also an immense honor. The team that is selected to represent the New York Yacht Club is determined on the basis of their performances in the matches that lead up to the Invitational Cup. This year Phil and Wendy Lotz from New Canaan onboard their vessel called Arethusa grasped the position of representing the club. After beating all the other rivals in an elimination series that comprised two regattas namely the NYYC Annual Regatta presented by Rolex, that was held from the 12th to the 14th of June and the Swan 42 National Championship that was held from the 16th to the 19th of July.

Beating out Andrew Fisher onboard the Bandit that was in the lead in the first race Phil and Wendy Lotz clinched the spot of participating on behalf of the club at the Invitational Cup. Even though a total of 20 boats were in competition for the spot Andrew Fisher’s team along with two other teams namely David K. Elwell Jr.’s team onboard the Conspiracy and Paul Zabetakis’s team with their boat called Impetuous that posed a threat to the Phil and Wendy Lotz team.

The close contested battle finally came to a close and saw a tremendous display of talent and technique. The New York Yacht Club team will be vying to bring home the trophy of the Invitational Cup and will be up against some of the best teams from around the world. As the Invitational Cup comes closer the anticipation to crown the champion is surging steadily.

Glory From The East: Banchalee Theinthong Wins AJGA Girls Division

As the annual tournament for the AJGA came around the most excellent course that could play host to the illustrious annual tournament was the Flossmoor Country Club.

Bejeweled with a rich history and tremendous heritage, the Flossmoor Country Club was created 110 years ago. As one of the oldest golfing clubs around the Flossmoor Country Club was witness to the victory of Chick Evans in the national tournament that was held in 1909, the PGA Championship held in 1920 along with the U.S. Amateur Open that was held in 1923 when Max Marston had triumphed over Bobby Jones and Francis Ouimet. The last major event that was held at this historical golf course was the Women’s Western Amateur, way back in 2000. The Flossmoor Country Club has been renovated recently and offers added features for better functioning.

Chosen by the AJGA to hold the annual tournament for 2009, the Flossmoor Country Club is a layout of 6,984-yards that is dotted with challenging situations. At this year’s edition of the AJGA annual tournament the talented young golfer Banchalee Theinthong from Bangkok triumphed over Ashley Armstrong of Flossmoor Illinois. Beating Ashley Armstrong in a three-hole playoff, Banchalee Theinthong claimed her title of the AJGA tournament. Posting a total score of 8-over-par 227 points, Banchalee Theinthong beat all the other rival girl golfers to claim her first victory.

This debutant player was competing in America for the first time and even though some of the players had a home advantage, Banchalee Theinthong focused on her game and clinched the title for the annual tournament. Securing the second place was Ashley Armstrong finished the game at 8-over-par 227 while Alyssa Elliott from Madison, Wisconsin secured the third place with a total score of 16-over-par 235. The riveting finish to the annual tournament enthralled the spectators who seemed to be stunned by the improved level of game play.

The win at the AJGA tournaments is eagerly sought after as the aspect of becoming a part of the illustrious golfers who have graduated from AJGA to participate in professional tournaments is immensely alluring. The list of prolific golfers who have attended the AJGA tournaments includes Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk, Stewart Cink, Davis Love III, Cristie Kerr, Pat Hurst, Paula Creamer, Brittany Lincicome, Morgan Pressel and Julieta Granada.

Bearing the conspicuous elements of the Rolex brand the Porsche 250 is a stage for showcasing spectacular talent. As the principal partner for the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series, Rolex ensures that every single race of this tournament evolves into a world class racing challenge.

The 2009 version of the Porsche 250 turned out into a major spectacle with all competing racers striving to gain the lead. The tremendous level of skill was evident by the sheer competition in the racing circuit. The Barber Motorsports Park transformed into an arena of champions on the 19th of July this year as skilled racers revved their engines at the starting line. Like the other races of the Rolex Series, the Porsche 250 is also credited with some remarkable performances. Spirit of Daytona’s Coyote

This year turned out to even more riveting with the highest number of photo finish ends in the history of the sport. The Spirit of Daytona team from Birmingham has been performing increasingly well at every single race. Slowly taking on the form of a formidable racing team the Spirit of Daytona team represented by drivers Antonio Garcia and Buddy Rice clinched its best finish for Daytona Prototype in the history of the team. On Sunday the Barber Motorsports Park bore witness to the remarkable driving skills of Antonio Garcia and Buddy Rice who finished at the fourth place in the Porsche 250 presented by Legacy Credit Union on their No. 09 Porsche V8-powered Coyote car.

Even though the Coyote car did not have the cutting edge features that were onboard some of the cars of the rivals and utilized an old Coyote chassis, the talented racers Antonio Garcia and Buddy Rice pushed the car to perform and stayed above most of the other racers. Winners of the Rolex 24 at Daytona, the duo representing the Spirit of Daytona adapted to employ the machine’s capacity in several low grip situations.

The Porsche powered car from the stables of the Spirit of Daytona team achieved the best finish that any Porsche-powered Daytona Prototype had ever attained. At one point early during the race Antonio Garcia who was on the fifth place on the grid moved up to the second position before handing over the car to team mate Buddy Rice. The Arizonian native Buddy Rice maintained the lead of the car at number four. Learning from the competition and the circuit Buddy Rice swiftly adapted to the requirements of the race.
