Rafael Nadal

The match between Rafael Nadal and his counterpart David Ferrer at the Rolex Master at Monte Carlo was indeed a magnificent one. Six times champion on the tournament Rafael Nadal continued his winning streak and won the match again creating history. The world number one player Rafael Nadal came out victorious against David Ferrer who is a 4th seeded player, in a winning set of 6-4, 7-5. He won a trophy that was presented to him by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, Charlene Wittstock his fiancée and Elizabeth-Ann de Massy who is the President of tournament committee. After the match Rafael Nadal expressed his happiness and stated that it was just unbelievable for him. His win at the clay court has started his clay court session and it was great to win at Monte Carlo for the seventh time. He also said that this championship is very close to his heart as this is the place that helped him create history. Rafael Nadal has gone to win 37 consecutive matches at Monte Carlo and even has a record of winning 39 games and losing only 1.

David Ferrer stated that Rafael Nadal played a very good game and his gaming skills cannot be surpassed on clay. He also clearly accepted the fact that he deserves to be where he is and is probably the best player in the history of clay events. Rafael Nadal broke two of his records in the Rolex event. First of all he became the first player in the history of the event to win the title for the seventh consecutive time. Secondly he was victorious in the 19th ATP World Tour Masters 1000 crown.

David Ferrer

He previously held the record of winning 18 coveted titles. Andre Agassi and Roger Federer’s record has been dismissed as they have 17 Masters Titles to their credit. As of now Rafael Nadal has amassed 44 tour level titles. In the finals of the All Spanish match (since 1990) there were many service breaks that were exchanged in 3rd and the 4th game before Rafael Nadal broke it in the 5th game and led it by 3-2. However it was not easy for the number one Spaniard to simply shake off his compatriot. As he reached the third game he took control of the match in the second set and established a lead of 4-2.

Rafael Nadal made a double fault and a back hand error that proved to be very costly as David Ferrer leveled the scores at 4-4. It was in the 11th game that David Ferrer again tightened up and Rafael Nadal got a very good chance to capitalize on some errors that his opponent made and continued playing to win the match in 2 hours and 16 minutes. Rafael Nadal stated that the victory gave him a lot of confidence as his season did not start very well.

The strong breeze at the Bacardi cup Miami venue let to a very interesting and an eventful race. Max Salmiren and his patner Fredrik Loof who are participating in the event, won the Rolex Miami OCR in the month of January. The race is the headline event of the year 2011. The Bacardi Miami Sailing week is being presented by EFG Bank. 89 teams were brought together for the sailing event from all across the world. The final winner of the title will be determined on the 12th of March, Saturday. On the second day of the event Peter Vessella(Burlingame) who is the skipper of the Californian team along with Rhodney Hagebols from San Francisco took an early lead but the team was overtaken at windward mark.

The duo of Max Salmirenand Sweden’s Fredrik Lööf was battling for the fifth position however after some time they were able to get past the group and lead the race at leeward mark. After the race, Fredrik Loof said that their start was quiet conservative. Explaining his strategy he stated that they had to work their way up from the left side of the course as the first upwind blew. They were in a good condition but the right came with a descend wind. It was at that point in the race that they chose to go on the right side even though most of the boats were going on the left side and that is what converted into a big gain for them. He also stated that his team was able to thwart the leaders and pull out in front of them as well as the other boats. The duo then went on and won the race and Peter O’Leary (Irish Olympian) along with his crew member David Burones finished in the second position. RolexHamish Pepper, who was the winner of the Bacardi cup in the year 2007 along with Craig Monk as his crew went on to grab the third position and was followed by Hagerbols and Vessella in the fourth position. As for Fredrik Loof’s approach in the competition he said that he just wanted to enjoy the new boat and take things as they come. This year’s competition was his third attempt at the cup. He also praised other competitors and said that the participants this year were very strong and professional in their approach.

Petter Morland Pedersen from Norway and his partner finished in the eighth position today and maintained their top rank in the overall standings. The Norwegian sailors are tied with Burones and O’Leary. The competition was very tough, a testament to this was the standings which were separating the teams with just one point between them. Over all, the third position went to Mateusz Kusznierewicz and Dominik Zycki with 12 points. Pascal Rambeau along with Guillaume Florent from France stands on the fourth position with 13 points in their kitty.
